About Me

Chef Chris Wessely

chef instructor and celerity hope-to-be

Chef Wessely earned his AAS culinary degree and graduated top of his 2011 class from the Secchia Institute for Culinary Education.  He was elected valedictorian, won the Faculty Choice Award, and maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA throughout the entire program.   In addition, he earned a B.A. in Political Science, Communication, and Japanese.  He completed a one-year, highly competitive immersion exchange program in Tokyo.

Chef Wessely retains a diverse culinary work experience, from numerous restaurants in Grand Rapids, MI to The Bay Harbor Yacht Club’s a la carte restaurant in Bay Harbor, Michigan. Just after graduation, he co-founded the Personal Chef Group, offering in-home cooking services.  He later sold that company and launched “Cooking with Chef Wessely”, offering culinary experiences through hands-on classes, presentations, demonstrations, and parties.

Chef Wessely was immediately recruited by his alma mater to teach.  He is also the exclusive executive chef for Gerrit’s Appliance, has taught at the Grand Rapids Downtown Market, and various in-home and corporate settings.  He has been a guest judge for numerous culinary challenges throughout Michigan.  In addition, Chef Wessely offers consulting services, from commercial to residential kitchen layouts, equipment acquisition, restaurant design, and menu engineering. Today, Chef Wessely has added virtual classes to his offerings, allowing him to go anywhere in the world, into anyone’s kitchen.

Chef Wessely truly loves sharing his culinary knowledge and passion with everyone. He focuses on food science and loves to experiment.   His classes are upbeat, energetic, well thought out, and engaging.
